Interact Club (grades
(9-12) at Thibodaux High School is sponsored by the
Thibodaux Rotary Club and sponsored by Rotarians
Sandy Holloway, Skipper Holloway and E. A.
Angelloz.
Thibodaux High School Interact Club recruited 26
members this school year. Led by our
president Christina Hebert, Interact soon became
high regarded at THS. Members eagerly
participated in Homecoming activities, as well as
Drug Free Awareness Month thus establishing
Interact as an integral part of the school.
After a presentation in September from Faie and
Lloyd Duplantis, members of St. Bridget Catholic
Church in Shriever, THS Interact members
unanimously decided to assist impoverished villages
in Haiti. For the past several years, local
humanitarians have worked to provide running water,
along with basic necessities, to Numero Deux and
Ravine Saab in Haiti. THS Interact’s first endeavor
was volunteering at a garage sale sponsored by St.
Bridget Church. All monies collected went
directly to the Haitian villages. After being a
part of this project, THS Interact pledged to raise
money to buy shoes for the children of these
villages.
The campaign for the THS Interact Share a
Shoe program was launched in January.
Interact members asked each homeroom to donate $15
to buy one pair of shoes. After two weeks, the club
collected $500 in donations. Local
missionaries, who had recently been to the Haitian
villages, provided the Interact members with
cardboard patterns of each child’s footprint.
Members then met at Wal-Mart to match each
footprint with a brand new pair of shoes. Wal-Mart
donated a $50 gift card to this project. Interact
was also able to give a $200 check to the villages
for basic needs.
THS Interact is scheduled to sell nachos at
Water World Day on March 29 in Peltier Park.
Interact members will also participate in the
District Convention held April 10-11 in
Gonzales.
