Youthact Club (grades 6-8) at
East Thibodaux Middle School is sponsored by
the Thibodaux Rotary Club and sponsored by
Rotarian and principal of St. Charles
Elementary School, Sandy Holloway.
This is the up-date on what the
Youthact Club has been up to. We helped with
the Dog Day Afternoon activity sponsored by
Hope for Animals Shelter. The girls walked dogs
available for adoption, helped serve food and
drinks, and paraded the dogs in the dog show.
We are currently wrapping up our Valentine
activity. We sponsored a Faculty Sweetheart
Court by selling paper hearts for 25 cents each
or 5 for $1.00. We are still counting votes and
money but have raised at least $150.00 which
will be donated to the Hope for Animals shelter
to help meet expenses for the daily upkeep of
the animals waiting to be adopted. We will also
be passing out fliers to help them advertise
their dinner fundraiser, and are coordinating
setting up a work day (or 2) at the shelter.
This would involve bathing and grooming the
dogs and helping to clean the kennels.
Our next activity will be collecting change for
China. Cathy Stack told us about the boarding
schools for rural Chinese children. We will
start collecting change next month.
The Youthact members have been very active and
are working well together. I can’t wait for us
to get the students from St. Charles next year
(6th graders) and continue building the club
and adding in more activities.
